Every component of this sculptural vase is thrown on the wheel, then cut and assembled. The doughnut forms are completely hollow, making it quite light. This vase is heavily influenced by my time recently spent in Devon, firing a woodfiring kiln for 8 days straight with master potter Nic Collins, in which bellied forms seems to flourish. The bellies catch the movement of the flame, with lots more surface are for the flame and ash to play on. While this vase is fired in an electric kiln in my London studio, it definitely was born of the wood kiln.
